This course examines the political, military, social, and economic developments that transformed Rome from a republic to an empire. Key themes include Roman mythology, early settlement, Etruscans, expansion, relations with Italians and other foreign peoples, Carthage, the Gracchi, the Civil Wards and the Principate.
